I’m not a fan of Jim Croce. That’s not to say I don’t like him, but he’s a bit before my time and I’m not familiar with his music. But I found this sound through an excellent Diana Krall remake that had me searching out the original.
This is a perfect little three act song: heartbreak, wanting everyone to know you’re over it, and finally, actually getting over it.
Wow, does this take me back, I remember this song very well, I was just a young teenager when this came out, and I lived in California, boy was this song a big hit. I have always liked this song, it is smooth and mellow and a heartfelt message to it. Now when I listen to it, it sure is dated, like who calls the operator anymore? and who puts a dime in the payphone, in fact who uses a payphone, but back in the day, that was the way it was. Great song, Operator sure does stand the test of time.
It’s funny how music takes you back to a certain time and or place in your life. When this song came on I imagined myself back in my house in Delmont with my mom and Step-dad there with this music in the background. Oh, and our brown and orange floral couch.
