I like this song because it’s truly original. I’m not sure I know of any other song that is written from this point of view: a woman begging–not threatening, not cajoling–but begging another woman to leave her man alone.
I think it’s a song that probably couldn’t be written today…these are the words of an empowered female. Today we’d tell the singer that if her man so much looked at another woman, she should pile his stuff on the front lawn and set it on fire.

I’ve chosen Mindy Smith’s version because I just love her voice. I don’t think Dolly Parton would mind all that much, since she appears in the video.
I have to admit that I love the song Jolene, this one goes back a long time. Mindy Smith did a good job with her version, but in my opinion Dolly owns this song, she has sang it all these years, and she just identifies with it. This is one song that is best done by the original artist, in my opinion.
