Ultimate Playlist #403: Flightless Bird, American Mouth

December 2, 2019December 1, 2019 / Melanie Novak / Leave a comment

The lyrics to this sound are kind of out there. The whole song is kind of weird, but I love the haunting melody. Almost feel like friendly ghosts are serenading me.

Plus, Bella and Edward dance to it in Twilight. So there’s that.

Ultimate Playlist #402: I Can Only Think Of One

December 1, 2019November 30, 2019 / Melanie Novak / Leave a comment

This one is off Dierks Bently’s first album, about a man in love with a one track mind.

Ultimate Playlist #401: Miss Me More

November 30, 2019January 26, 2020 / Melanie Novak / Leave a comment

I have to admit, Kelsea Ballerini wasn’t really on my radar screen. You know by now that I lean toward 90’s country, and she’s solidly mainstream of this area.

But my music streaming service kept recommending her so I gave in and gave her a listen. I was impressed, and I’m fan.

Miss Me More is the kind of breakup anthem I can totally get behind.

Ultimate Playlist #400: Sugar Coat

November 29, 2019November 23, 2019 / Melanie Novak / 1 Comment

A song written by Lori McKenna and sung by Little Big Town has to be winner, and this new one is.

Remember, things are not always as they appear–on social media and at the party, we’re not seeing what’s beneath the Sugar Coat.

Ultimate Playlist #399: Simple Life

November 28, 2019November 23, 2019 / Melanie Novak / 2 Comments

This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for music.

There’s nothing wrong with you
The simple life gets complicated
There’s nothing you can do, just enjoy the view be glad you made it this far

Ultimate Playlist #398: Every Once In A While

November 27, 2019November 23, 2019 / Melanie Novak / 1 Comment

Just ask her if she ever thinks about me

She’d say, “Every once in a while.”

So simple, but one of my favorite song lines ever.

Ultimate Playlist #397: Springsteen

November 26, 2019November 23, 2019 / Melanie Novak / Leave a comment

It’s not Springsteen for me, but I get Eric Church’s point.

Nothing can take you back to a particular place in time like a song.

Ultimate Playlist #396: Drinking Alone

November 25, 2019November 23, 2019 / Melanie Novak / 1 Comment

I love this bluesy drinking song from Carrie Underwood’s latest album.

Ultimate Playlist #395: Sexy Soundtrack Week: “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic

November 24, 2019November 21, 2019 / Melanie Novak / 2 Comments

Was there ever any doubt which song would top my list? Not if you’ve met me.

Titanic is the best movie ever made, with the possible exception of Gone With The Wind.

That’s not fake news, folks. That’s facts. Relive Jack and Rose’s journey one more time, with Celine Dion, the Queen of the Power Ballad herself.

Ultimate Playlist #394: Sexy Soundtrack Week: “A Thousand Years” from Twilight: Breaking Dawn

November 23, 2019November 21, 2019 / Melanie Novak / 1 Comment

Twilight: You either get it or you don’t.

If you don’t, I won’t try to convince you. But if Bella and Edward’s love story got under your skin the way it got under mine, you’ll have this song in your head for days and days.

And you’ll probably blow a weekend rewatching the series.

Time well spent.
